Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

²⁶ Now ^(A)an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south^[a] to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. ²⁷ And he rose and went. And there was an ^(B)Ethiopian, a ^(C)eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, ^(D)who was in charge of all her treasure. ^(E)He had come to Jerusalem to worship ²⁸ and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. ²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” ³⁰ So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

²¹ that ^(A)the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that ^(B)the whole creation ^(C)has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

⁴ He answered, ^(A)“Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,

¹¹ And she ^(A)vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed ^(B)look on the affliction of your servant and ^(C)remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, ^(D)and no razor shall touch his head.”

²⁰ And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the Lord.”^[a]

⁵⁶ And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.

¹⁸ Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; ^(A)I will make him a helper fit for^[a] him.” ^19 (B)Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed^[b] every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and ^(C)brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. ²⁰ The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam^[c] there was not found a helper fit for him. ²¹ So the Lord God caused a ^(D)deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. ²² And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made^[d] into a woman and brought her to the man. ²³ Then the man said,

^24 (G)Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
